Coscom Entertainment Monster Book Submission Call
Coscom Entertainment is actively seeking submissions for its monster book catalogue to be launched early 2009.
What we’re seeking:
Well-written, eerie and exciting novels or novellas featuring a single monster or more, particularly those falling in line with the “main” monsters of zombies, werewolves, vampires, mummies, and Frankenstein-esque creatures. Other general monster stories will be considered as well, but we’re more interested in the monster archetypes at this time.
Regarding vampire stories, we’re not interested in elegant vampires who are made of money and just suck people’s blood on the side, but instead would like to see vampire stories about hardcore, scary vampires that are feral rather than civil (though, of course, there can be a civil side to them).
Third-person stories strongly preferred.
General Q &A:
1.) When are submissions open?
The submission doors open immediately and close on June 30th.
2.) Should I send you my whole book, a few sample chapters or just a query?
Just a query. Make it good. Make it strong. You only have one shot. Should your query hook us, we’ll look at the first three chapters. If those hook us, we’ll look at the whole thing.
Note: the chapter sample and/or whole book process will take place after submission closing date.
3.) How long is your response time?
For queries, anywhere from right away to a month after we receive your letter. For the sample chapters, should we wish to see them, around the same. For the full manuscript, 1-2 months.
4.) How long should my book be?
Approx. 20,000 – 40,000 words for novellas
Approx. 40,000 – 100,000 words for novels
No short story collections.
5.) Does Coscom Entertainment pay advances?
Yes.
6.) How much?
Depends on the project. An offer will be made based on the book itself and estimated sales.
7.) Where should I send my query to?
Coscom Entertainment will be accepting snail mail queries only for this particular submissions call. Please send your best query letter to:
Attn: Acquisitions
Coscom Entertainment

8.) What should I include with my query?
First and foremost, be professional. Coscom Entertainment has received far too many unprofessional queries in the past and all were automatically turned down. Aside from telling us about your book and why we should publish it, please also include any past publishing credits worth mentioning. Keep your queries to one page and be sure to include your complete contact information in the upper right hand corner.
9.) Should I include a SASE?
Yes, or we can just use the email address you provide for a reply as well.
10.) Can’t I just email you my query, seeing as how you’ll reply by email?
No.
11.) I’m an author who’d just like to see my book in print and after that do nothing but write the next one. Should I submit?
No. Although Coscom Entertainment has a host of marketing initiatives set up for its new direction, we would much rather work with authors who are hungry to succeed, ones who’ll be proactive in spreading the word about their book, do book signings and work the Web on a regular basis.
12.) What’s your website?
www.coscomentertainment.com
13.) Anything else?
Yes. Should we turn down your query or manuscript, we’ll do our best to let you know why. However, depending on the volume of submissions, this might not be possible.
We look forward to hearing from you.
