Eight years ago today, my in-law’s house was eyeball deep in packing cartons and a total shambles. Preston and I were five days away from leaving Harlan County to move to Lexington. Sugar thought it was the coolest thing 3v@r! She had a lot of stuff to climb around on and hide behind, you see. Right around this same time, Preston said, “You’re right. It’s a good thing we started packing last month. We couldn’t have done this all in one day.” Whatever the hell possessed us to move at the end of the month is beyond me.

Author: Mari Adkins

Appalachian gothic fiction writer - my works reflect a love of literature flavored by the darkness and magic residing in these ancient mountains. In my spare time, I'm a Simmer, I tumbl, I journal, but I always have a very strange sense of humor. I have lived away from the mountains and lived deep in the mountains. I currently live in Central Kentucky with my lifepartner and his cat. The mountains, their culture, their superstitions, their particular magics, will always be in my blood.
